Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao recently shared a personal incident that reflects his commitment to ensuring respect is upheld in his marriage. Speaking on comedian Raunaq Rajani’s show
RelationShit Advice, Rao recalled firing his 48-year-old cook—not for poor performance, but for his disrespectful behavior toward Rao’s wife, actress Patralekhaa.
The conversation unfolded after Rajani mentioned that his own cook behaves disrespectfully towards his wife, Henna Mirchandani, but he chooses to keep him employed because of the cook’s exceptional food. In contrast, Rajkummar revealed that no matter how talented someone is, respect is non-negotiable in his home.
“We had a cook, he must’ve been around 48. A great cook! For the first time in my life, I was getting vegetarian Mexican food. Otherwise, it would just be some hari sabzi and rice,” Rao shared.
He continued, “After two days, Patra (Patralekhaa) told me, ‘This guy does not talk to me nicely. I think there’s some issue.’ And I could figure it out. On the third day, when Patra asked him something, he made a face. But with me, he’d talk with a lot of respect.”
That’s when Rao decided to act .
He called the cook and told him firmly: “Aap apna bag pack kijiye aur chale jaiye.” (Translation: “Please pack your bags and leave.”)
The audience applauded Rao’s decisive action, appreciating the respect he showed for his partner and the zero-tolerance approach toward disrespect in his home.
Married in 2021 after a decade-long relationship, Rajkummar and Patralekhaa are still celebrated for their enduring love and respect. On the work front, Rajkummar’s latest movie Bhool Chuk Maaf, featuring actress Wamiqa Gabbi, hit theatres on May 23, 2025.
